Most modifiers are used to transform the most basic of 3D shapes into something completely different an object can have any number of modifiers, but if you delete the modifier after having used it, the object will revert back to it’s original form.

Selecting the + icon which is beside every modifier will give you additional options for tweaking the shape. The above video that I have created shows how a modifier can be applied to a simple sphere shape to turn into something else in this case I used the “twist” modifier which altered the vertices of the object to create a spiral shape. You can also place an object on top of another object by selecting the AutoGrid option which is above the Object Selection interface, this is useful for creating something that may require multiple levels like a skyscraper. Creating Basic ObjectsĪbove is the interface for creating basic objects such as a box, sphere or cylinder when an object is selected it is as simple as just dragging on the grid to create the 3D model as you can see above, you can use the move, rotate and scale tools to change the model. G – Simply this toggles the grid off and on.į3 – Wireframe Mode for the 3D model this turns it off and on. R – This key selects the scale tool which for re-sizing the 3D object that you have selected along the Y, Z and X axis. W – This key selects the move tool which for moving the 3D object that you have selected along the Y, Z and X axis.Į – This key selects the rotate tool which for rotating the 3D object that you have selected along the Y, Z and X axis. The viewport is the where you will view the objects that you create in 3DS Max.ĬTRL + Z – This command will undo the last change that you made you your 3D Model useful if you made a mistake, I use this often. The key commands that I learned and found to be the most useful would include:ĬTRL + W – This will Maximize the viewport.

Section 1 – In this section of your blog, you should demonstrate your understanding and appreciation (both written and illustrative) of 3D usage in interaction.ģDS Max looks complicated from first glance but once you have learned the few important key commands and understand the interface, I found it fairly easy to jump straight in and start creating 3D Models and animations.
